Join Coach Bobby Muuss for an All Access-style look at how Wake Forest trains attacking play in the final third using pattern play and switching the point of attack. Filmed during an evening preseason session, this video provides coaches with a complete view of how elite programs structure attacking training to create rhythm, movement and goal-scoring opportunities.

Coach Muuss walks his team through a series of possession-based patterns designed to draw defenders in before quickly switching the field. These patterns emphasize spacing, body positioning, timing of runs and coordinated movement between outside backs, wingers, central midfielders and the center forward. A key focus throughout the session is developing the third-man runner to add unpredictability and create overloads near goal.

The session progresses into an 11v10 Eight-Goal Game, where players are rewarded for switching the point of attack as well as finishing chances. This game challenges decision-making, reinforces central midfield discipline and teaches defenders how to stay connected while facing the field under pressure.

Coach Muuss then builds attacking confidence and clarity in the final third through a 3v0 Goal Transition activity that evolves into live play. Players rehearse finishing patterns, wide 1v1 play, service into the box and the timing of attacking runs as additional players join the attack.

While much of the training session is low-contact, Muuss demands a high offensive tempo to simulate match conditions. This makes the session ideal for programs focused on load management, preseason preparation or reintegrating players while still training core attacking concepts.
