Building a Read-Based, Spacing-Driven Motion Offense:
Concepts, Actions & Teaching Progressions offers coaches a modern, detailed, and adaptable approach to building a motion offense that blends structured concepts with read-based freedom.

Lafayette's Mike McGarvey provides a comprehensive video designed to help you install a motion system that fits your team and grows with your personnel.

What You'll Learn:

Two-Man & Three-Man Actions
Coach McGarvey breaks down key reads like back cuts, handoffs, pin downs, and essential spacing principles.

Expanding to 4-Out & 5-Out Motion
See how to layer in ball screens, player movement, and options for shooters, rollers, and cutters all designed to create offensive flow and unpredictability.

Short-Sided Games & Progressions
A major highlight of this video is McGarvey's emphasis on small-sided games and 5-on-0 to 5-on-5 teaching progressions that help players build timing, spacing habits, and read-react instincts.

Ball Screen Coverage & Spacing Reactions
You'll learn how to teach and drill multiple ball screen coverages - hedge, drop, switch, and ice - and how each decision affects off-ball movement.

Additional Insights
Coach McGarvey also discusses how to:

  • Connect the offense to player strengths
  • Define offensive rebounding responsibilities
  • Add quick hitters and zone actions without losing your motion identity

Whether you're installing motion for the first time or refining a seasoned system, this video gives you a full blueprint. The information is ideal for coaches who want to modernize their offense while staying fundamentally sound and conceptually flexible.
