Marist College head women’s basketball coach, Brian Giorgis, has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year seven times and made it to 12 straight MAACC Tournament championship games. In this clip, Coach Giorgis walks through the method he uses to beat a 2-2-1 press using a 1-4 set.
Rotation vs. 2-2-1 Press
Drill Summary: Get a defense set up in a 2-2-1 press. On offense, line up in a 1-4 set with four players across the free throw line extended. Inbound to the ball-side guard. On the inbound, the first player closest to the ball cuts up the sideline and gets behind the second line of defenders on the ball side. The second player then slashes to the middle of the floor and the player furthest from the ball goes deep on the opposite side of the floor. The ball handler should dribble up the sideline as far as the defense will allow without getting trapped. If the defense comes to trap, the ball handler can either pass the ball to an open player up the court or reverse the ball. If the ball is reversed, make sure to run cutters to the middle and fill spots once again.
