4x State (NY) Champions (in a row);
Giorgis is the only coach in New York scholastic sports history to bring teams in four different sports to the state Final Four (also coached the baseball, softball and volleyball teams)

As the all-time leader in wins at Marist College, Brian Giorgis knows how to win and handle pressure. Despite facing teams with a greater athletic advantage, his teams have twice lead the country in the fewest turnovers committed. A direct result of how they are able to break pressure defenses.

Beginning with a checklist of how to attack each type of pressure, Coach Giorgis creates an attacking style of play allowing any player who touches the ball during the press break to have three options: one behind them, one in the middle, and one ahead of them. He uses these concepts to demonstrate how to beat a diamond, 1-2-2, 2-2-1, 1-3-1, and 2-1-2 full court press.

Roles and Responsibilities

Coach Giorgis begins with each player's role and responsibility within the press attack. He uses his 1-4, or Regular, set up to break any style of press. The purpose of the 1-4 set is to create mismatches in the open court along with advantages once you get past half court. Against a diamond, he demonstrates how to enter the ball into the wing, point guard, or post player and still feel confident that you will be able to attack the press every time down the floor.

Press Breaks vs Odd and Even Fronts

Using the same set up, he demonstrates how to attack various presses. By distorting the middle defender once the ball has entered play, your players will learn to read that ball reversal or skip passes are important in creating every mismatch. As you look to attack each press, your point guards and off guards must know what to do with ball once they cross half court. Picking up the ball just past half court is not an option that he emphasizes.

  • 1-4 Rotations vs a Diamond Press deals with odd front pressing defenses that try to deny all passes. He explains the reads, rotations, and replacing movements as well as the use of the short and long corner. He allows shows how you can get your point guard the ball in the middle of the court.
  • 1-4 Rotations vs a 1-2-2 Press the key is distorting the back of the zone press and he shows how certain actions can do that and leave the defense exposed at their rim.
  • 1-4 Rotations vs a 2-1-2 Press. Here he shows how to deal with the middle trapper to easily defeat this press.
  • 1-4 Rotations vs a 1-3-1 Press. After the ball is inbound he shows how his team takes a 2-1-2 shape in order to attack the back of the defense. He points out how important it is for your back to players to draw the baseline defender away from the rim releasing pressure
  • 1-4 Rotations vs a Man-to-Man Pressure. The key for this press break is determining if the in bounder is being guarded or if they have a floating defender. He shows how to take advantage of a speed mismatch and various screening actions to get certain players the ball are demonstrated.

Once your team has mastered how to beat full court pressure defenses using the 1-4 Regular set, he gives you multiple options for when your opponents make adjustments to your press attack. With a Florida option, he demonstrates how to bring all of your players close the baseline and run the straight out away from the rim allowing you to get set into your Regular press attack. He will also demonstrate several out of bounds sets that you can use to break man pressure in the full court.

Leading the country two years in fewest turnovers is a tough assignment for any team. Coach Giorgis has mastered a press attack. His ability to teach his players to read the defense and come away with a scoring opportunity is one of the best in the country.

I’ll be honest. Any negative feedback about this video blows my mind. The talk about being unorganized or hard to follow bc of stopping/starting is insane to me. First of all it’s a clinic, which means he is TEACHING.

Anyway, what I love about this video is the simplicity of it. I’ve run this for 2 years and it works like a charm. Even if it was unorganized or hard to follow, doesn’t change the concept of it bc of it’s simplicity. It’s easy to figure out & easy for players to understand. Highly recommend.

Not good guys, This was quite hard to follow....I think even the players frequently were confused about what to do with his instructions in this video. These are not his players of course, but there is a lot of stoppage to correct things. This is good from a coaching standpoint, but just confusing and kind of all over the place. Coach Giorgis talks way to much and does not seem to work very well with these guys trying to explain and demonstrate his philosophies. There is some good things in here, but I think there are better sources out there on breaking full-court pressure. I would say look elsewhere, I exchange this video for Open Practice with Jerry Petitgoue which I think he does a better job working with the players and getting to the point of his press breakers like the 1-4 alignment.

This is GOLD!!! As a high school coach I found everything was practical and explained well. Coach offered a counter for most adjustments made by the defense. If you play against pressing teams and half trapping teams watch this video.

Coach Giorgis does an excellent job of taking the viewer through his approach at a 1-4 Press Attack against a wide range of Zone presses (and spends good time on how to use for a man press as well).

I found his video easy to follow, focused and organized. The instructions and subsequent demonstrations provided me with more than enough theoretical and practical understanding of his philosophy and approach to implement this with me HS team.

I found this presentation to be somewhat disorganized. Perhaps its because its in a clinic setting, but many of the rules of the press break were not clearly explained, or were explained out of order. In many cases, it seems like things were overlooked--for example, the DVD would cover what would happen if the ball is inbounded to O1, or O2...then in the scrimmage, the ball would be inbounded to O3, and there was no explanation as to what happened or what was going on. Some things were just unclear--for example, it would be explained that the point guard does XYZ, but it wasn't clear if that means the actual point guard, or the person to whom the ball was inbounded regardless of position. Sometimes it appeared it could be either by the demonstrations.

The coach is an engaging speaker and what he does explain, he does so clearly. But in some parts, his stories or going off topic were distracting. That may be interesting for a clinic, but when you're trying to ingest a system, it gets in the way.

If you want some ideas or ways to add to how you already attack different presses, this may be OK. But if you're looking for a DVD to teach you ground up how to systematically implement a press break system in an organized manner from step 1-10, and how to teach it to your players, this isn't it.

Awesome video. Mr. Giorgis does a great job explaining the press break against all presses. Also, Mr. Giorgis responds to email immediately if you have any questions. This video is worth the purchase.

Coach Giorgis started out as a high school coach so you can see immediately that he is a great teacher of the game..He begins with his regular press attack for demonstration purposes and then progresses through each of the various presses. He goes through the press and then has the players show 5 v 5 live situations. He covers all the various types of man and zone presses. Diamond, 3-2/1-2-2, 2-2-1, man-to-man with a man on the in bounder and playing center field. He also covers how to handle when a team comes back and looks to trap out of man-to-man. I own close to 100 championship videos and I would say that this is top 5 easily. Especially if you are a high school coach looking for something simple that is pretty universal.
