East Kansas Wrestling Club head coach, Eric Akin, advises short wrestlers and heavyweights to get a single leg from a higher position on their opponent’s body. This is a great takedown that will allow athletes to control their opponent and advance further on the attack.

Snatch Single Leg

Drill Summary: To execute a snatch single leg, the wrestler must step once and punch twice, then attack the leg from their feet (not their knees). Remember to stay in a stance and keep your head up, or the opponent will have a better chance of escaping. The next step is to pinch the opponent’s leg between your legs and keep your hands down. From there, reach out and grab their other leg and push forward to the mat for a take down.
