This is a great DVD. I thouroughly enjoyed watching it and listening to Mark Cody’s philosophy and approach to wrestling. I have to concede though, I have a bias that favors Mark Cody. I attended a NWCA coaches clinic back when Mark Cody was head coach of American University, and I really resonated with his approach to wrestling.
One of the thing Mark stresses in this DVD is to attack with your body, not just your arms or upper-body. That point really hit home with me and I have been much more successful with my leg attacks since. He initially shows various leg attacks from the arm drag, and explains in detail how to finish the takedown from the standing position to the mat.
The thing I liked is that Mark doesn’t just skim through the techniques, does a great job in really taking the time to explain things thoroughly enough without being verbose. I really like the style of double leg which he advocates and teaches on this DVD. It works really well with the high school wrestlers I teach. The double leg was a move not many of my students would hit in competition, but with the kind of double leg Mark teaches in this DVD, a lot of my students now have been having success with it. As a coach that is worth the price alone. He also does a great job in explaining how he likes to finish high crotches.
Great DVD from an overlooked and underrated wrestling coach. I hope to see him coaching at a D1 school soon again.
