Strategic Drills for Teaching Successful Sand Volleyball

World renowned beach volleyball coach Jeff Alzina shares some of his favorite drills for developing the skills necessary to be an elite sand volleyball player.

Coach Alzina stresses the importance in determining your philosophy and working back from that to establish your training priorities. His philosophies center on 4A's - Apex, Acceleration, Audible, and Anticipation. His drills reflect these core values throughout the presentation. The drills are appropriate for beginners and Olympians alike as they are based in the same theory. Alzinia's instruction takes the 'standards' of the court game into the sand where he details the differences that need to be applied when playing the sand game. Throughout each of the drills, Alzinia provides invaluable nuggets of sand-specific strategies for passing, attacking, setting and transition.

These drills are excellent for transitioning indoor players to the sand game quickly, and creating well-rounded, intelligent players. They also are designed for training your team through high reps that require constant and purposeful active movement.
