These are controllable traits that players can work on to enhance their personality and character. The list that Lefty covers is a great place to start for all coaches to evaluate their players. Mechanics of Catching & Drills

Learn the mechanics needed to be a great catcher in all aspects, including: receiving, blocking, throwing, bunts, and plays at the plate. Leftwich breaks down the fundamentals of catching, emphasizing the key components of what each part of the body needs to do, ensuring player safety first.

This video has over 15 drills to help develop your catchers' skills. There are seven drills where your catcher uses their bare hand instead of their glove. Coach Leftwich shows how to teach proper mechanics of catching, which will keep your players safe and avoid injuries. Instead of using softballs, Lefty has her catchers use tennis balls and ping pong balls to teach placement of the thumb and to work on vision training.
