To play with a purpose, Kohlenstein expertly uses target players on each end line and one across a mid-line within the grid to link up with the attacking team. The goal for the attacking team is to pass and move quickly, scoring by passing the ball to the target on the opposite side of the grid. By using the target players to create a numerical advantage, the offensive team can retain possession while looking for open lanes to connect the longer scoring passes. They are fun for the players because they are competitive, they are game related because they involve all sorts of chances to finish, and they definitely work the cardio for all of the players. One think I like about his approach is that it encourages players to sprint during the drills. Too often players are content to run (but not sprint) forward on offense and backward on defense. The videos did not contain a large number of drills but by having Frank diagram them and spend 15-30 minutes running them you got a good feel for what was expected. In the video on possession I thought that there were times when he could have included the goal keepers in the drills rather than keeping them isolated from the rest of the team. His coaching points during the drills were rather basic, but the drills themselves were great with plenty of room for adaption to individual teams and what a coach wants to emphasize.
