Hall Award recipient (Given to the top first-year coach in Division I)With tough, competitive practices, Coach Ryan Odom conditions his players to play at game speed and get game shots up at game speed. His shooting workouts will teach players to create space and know when and where shots will come on the offensive end. In this video, he breaks down the drills he uses to create a drive and kick style of play and how to create a competitive atmosphere in your practices. Shooting Drills Beginning with Shake Up 3's, players will go to 5 spots and get up 10 shots from each spot. Competing as 2 teams, players will sprint to the wing and get an open shot from a player driving to the elbow. First team to get to 10 shots wins. Progressing to transition shots, 45's are shots where players pitch ahead and get a pass back in return. In fill behind 3's, players throw a pass to the elbow and get a return pass back off of a drive and return option. These types of shots are great for teaching players how to relocate off of paint touches.Slide 3's Being able to get kick out 3's from a pass into the post is a great way to draw the defense away and create space. Players use this drill to simulate a post feed and relocation around the perimeter. As players shoot from different spots on the perimeter, they compete against the opposite basket. Transition Game Rounding out this competitive practice is Circle Transition. Players start at one end of the floor and start out sprinting to spots once the shot goes up. By loading to one side of the ball and pitching ahead, players are able to force the defense to make decisions when it comes to stopping the basketball. Transition offense is working to attack the 45 degree angle and get into the paint to force advantage situations. This is a great drill to work on the transition offense and transition defense against an attacking team. Designing competitive practices starts with making your drills as game-like as possible with game-like shots to setting up your offense into game-like situations. The drills in this video will set your team up for success in the seasons ahead!Customer review: 5 out of 5 Stars - 'Coach Odom pays close attention to detail when setting up his competitive drills. It was easy to follow and provided interesting pointers about not only the execution of the drill, but also their purpose. It also focuses a lot on the footwork and the movement patterns while shooting. This is an excellent video that will help coaches at all levels of play!'72 minutes. 2024.
