Michigan's Dusty May is one of the rising stars in the game today - and in this fantastic, front-row-seat capture of his live practice session (at FAU), you will witness, firsthand, the skill, precision, purpose and excellence that have catapulted FAU to an elite level of NCAA Men's Basketball programs!

Here's a glimpse of what you will learn, what Coach May reinforces and some of the great coaching ideas, pearls of wisdom and observations you will be able to immerse yourself in - for your own program - with this Open Practice video:

  • Let your players play through mistakes - It allows the players to talk and work things out!
  • Teach disadvantage situations for the defense - as defenses will often have to guard with the numbers being in the offense's favor.
  • Breakdown and teach offensive basics - taking an offense and breaking it into its parts before building it back up is proven to be the best way to teach offense!
  • A great passing drill - 'Bocce passing' is a drill working on passing, driving, relocating and delivering a good pass to a teammate  - figuring out angles to pass to and pivoting to move defenders and create openings!
  • 2 v 1 shooting - Defense starts on block, offense is in the corner and slot receives a pass then has to make a decision to shoot, drive or pass  - working on reading the defense! Love this shooting drill because it puts decision making pressure on it!  Offense receives the ball in the slot, the defender is closing out from the block to force a quick decision/read from the offensive team. Competitive between teams with consequences for the losing team.
  • 5 v 0, 5 v 5 - 5 v 0 transition to work on different sets -  if you don't get anything out of the primary break, then going 5 v 5 full court to run those sets against defense - to allow players to learn how to read and what to read during the game!
  • Advantage/Disadvantage Drill - A 4 v 3 and a 5 v 5 . send defense to half court scramble drill, offensively looking to use the advantage to create open shots and high percentage plays, defensively looking to being able to handle the disadvantage to get the offense to have a bad possession through communicating, anticipating, and understanding where the weakness and how to scramble effectively.
  • 3 Minute/2 Minute Games - Be able to play with time and score  - and learn how to get good positions offensively  - and . to learn to get stops defensively -  with losers having consequences for losing  . always making sure his team is competing!

Watching Coach May 'coach' his team is, in itself, the beauty and value found in this Open Practice video! Dusty May exudes great energy and passion in his coaching and guess what? - his players give great energy the entire practice! May coaches with passion. You will definitely use some of the drills and sets shared here in your practices. Make the decision today to invigorate your practice sessions by adding some energy and great concepts found in this 5 star instructional video!

Imagine attending a coaching clinic and the energy is electric and the coaching leading the clinic has your full attention. This is that video. Coach May, from the first drill (Bocce passing drill) to the final session (Boston 5v5 Transition) drill, leads the team, along with his assistant coaches, through a host of drills with energy. quality teaching and instructions, and instant feedback.

You get a front row seat at practice. Like I said, you start of watching a passing drill session with the whole team (Bocce Passing). Looking at shot and ball fakes. Great footwork and communication. Then you move on to shooting drills (2 v 1) is a great drill because the offensive and defensive players are working on reads, spacing, and shot fakes. After the shooting drills, you move on to 1v1 stuff (w/screener) and then into a 4v3 drill and then into more 5v5 team stuff like transition and 3-minute games.

Overall this a great DVD for your coaching collection. 5-Star rating.

Great video for watching to see how tempo in practice is created. Coach May practices sessions are full of intent, purpose and energy. I have now watched this video three times since Friday and I will refer back to it often as I begin to study and pull nuggets out for next season. One of the best ways for me to learn is through observation of greatness and this video is chock full of so many examples of well-thought-out segments.

Good video for watching to see how tempo in practice is created. But for instructional purpose hard to gain information from video other than organization of practice & pace.
