This video featuring the NCAA men's basketball leading scorer from the 2020-21 season, Oral Roberts University's Max Abmas, takes you through an individual skill development workout designed for top-notch improvement. The workout focuses on the five key areas of basketball: handling, passing, defending, finishing and shooting. Throughout the workout, you'll see how to build conditioning elements, which are key to becoming a great defender.

Build Up Drills

You'll begin with drills that are meant to build on each other as the workout progresses.Drills begin with wall passing, including different skill actions such as shot fakes and throwing using different hands to build an effective passer. Next, you'll see finishing drills that aim to use both hands on the right and left side of the basket.

The next segment of the workout focuses on ball handling, while still emphasizing passing and finishing. Players will do two ball dribbling, dribble hand-offs, and more. You'll also see shooting work in the half court.

Competitive Shooting and Footwork

First in this section, you'll learn the Red Light Green Light shooting exercise, used to decide who has the green light to shoot in games. Next, you will see 2 Minute Shooting, which is another great competitive shooting drill. All drills in this portion of the workout give players experience shooting under pressure situations.

Finally, the Triangle Shooting drill is shown, which focuses on footwork into a shot. Whether you are moving left to right or right to left, you will learn how to use solid footwork and put up more consistent shots. Near the tail end of the video, the 8 Minute Shooting drill tests the ability of any athlete to continue making shots despite being tired.

Every drill shown in this video is something you can do in a gym or driveway to build individual skill. You'll see how to improve the main components needed to become an elite basketball player from one of the top scorers in the college game!

Great drills. A few that incorporate ball handling, passing, and shooting. A lot that can be used that simulate things you would see in an offense.

Immensely helpful with tons of challenging shooting drills that are perfect for developing players. I use this in most training sessions with my varsity players.

I love this video on skill development!! Coach Abams did a wonderful job offering some skill development drills to the coaching community. There were no wasted minutes where a coach is talking for four minutes about a drill. No wasted minutes where a coach is talking about something that happened 10-20 years ago. Coach and the players went to work, and it felt like I was in the gym, as a coach, observing an actual workout.

Some of the things that I loved about this video besides the pace was, the shooting drills. For example, the "Red, Light" shooting and "Two Minute" shooting drills. Great stuff. The wall passing drills were nice. I love when a coach and player are working on their footwork and with this video, you get footwork emphasis. The passing drills (with the wall) are staples of the fundamental phase and in this series, you will not be disappointed.

The Finishing series was nice as well. Great finishing moves to add to the arsenal. Overall, 5 Star video. Excellent coaching. Excellent pace. Excellent video. Well done, Coach Abams and players.
