In this on-court presentation, Matt Painter outlines all of the important elements, Xs and Os, and rules from his zone offense, which contains motion principles with rules. His teams go from transition offense into motion offense versus man or zone defense.

Coach Painter demonstrates the rules and principles by taking the players through 3-on-0, 4-on-0 and finally 5-on-0. See how Painter teaches his players to utilize shot fakes, pass fakes, misdirection dribble and the rip and go to successfully execute the Cut-Thru Zone offense. The players must keep 12-15ft spacing, cut to the high post, speed or hard cut to the short corner, constantly change their movement, and use the misdirection dribble to move the defense. Benefits from these actions include natural overloads that create open shots and it will constantly put your players in offensive rebound position.

After building the player movement, Painter coaches the players in a 5-on-5 setting versus a 2-3 defense while then incorporating the use of the ball screen.

If you are looking for new ideas for attacking zone defenses this DVD will give your players many cutting options, using the dribble effectively, while also feeding the post and looking for cutters.

Speaker was vague about how to teach his offense and did not provide enough info. Spent too much time on one small phase of his zone attack. It was disappointing regarding depth.

This is an "ok" DVD. The offense itself is effective in my opinoin. The problem with it is that it is not explained well by Painter at the beginning so it's a little confusing. I had to watch it three times before I really understood.

In all, I would recommend the DVD and the offense. But make sure that you really analyze it segement by segment to understand. They guy is a good coach and his teams have a lot of movement so I'm sure this would work at the high school level.
