Winning close games often comes down to preparation and performing with confidence under pressure. In this detailed instructional video, Bradley University head coach Brian Wardle shares his favorite situational scrimmages designed to prepare teams for the most important moments of the game.

Coach Wardle presents a complete collection of competitive scrimmage situations that teach players how to execute under pressure, manage time and score situations, and compete with discipline during critical possessions. Throughout the presentation, he explains how to structure practices that simulate the intensity, urgency, and decision-making required on game day.

The video begins with Coach Wardle discussing his philosophy of practice and the importance of building highly competitive environments that hold players accountable. He explains why practices must reflect game pressure and how demanding competitive situations can accelerate player development while building team toughness.

From there, the instruction moves into a series of organized situational scrimmages that can be implemented immediately into practice planning. Each scenario is designed to replicate real game situations while challenging players to make smart decisions and execute under stress.

Featured scrimmage situations include the Braves Break Scrimmage, which teaches pace, transition play, and decision-making with a shortened shot clock; the 8 and 5 Baseline Out-of-Bounds Game, which develops execution and defensive discipline during critical possessions; and the Free Throw Scrimmage, which teaches rebounding responsibility, defensive transition, and offensive awareness following free-throw situations.

Coach Wardle also demonstrates 66-66 Two-Minute Game scenarios that train players to execute in tied late-game situations, along with Down 5 with One Minute Remaining situations that teach urgency, fouling strategy, defensive execution, and quick scoring decisions.

Additional late-game concepts include press break situations, defending special actions, handling pressure possessions, and building communication during stressful moments. Coaches will learn how to prepare players for the wide variety of situations that often determine game outcomes.

A key component of every scrimmage is accountability. Each competitive segment is structured with clear winners and losers, reinforcing the urgency and focus required to perform in meaningful game situations.

Throughout the presentation, Coach Wardle discusses how to build practice habits that translate directly to game performance, teach players to handle pressure with confidence and composure, and develop team accountability through structured competition.

The emphasis remains on creating realistic practice environments that reinforce execution, focus, communication, and competitive toughness. By repeatedly training game-specific scenarios, players become more comfortable, confident, and disciplined when those situations arise in competition.

This instructional video provides coaches with a complete framework for using situational scrimmages to build smarter, tougher, and more prepared basketball teams capable of executing when the game is on the line.
