Coach Lowery-coached teams are known as tough, defensive-minded teams. In this excellent video, Lowery shares some of the drills he uses to reinforce his teams' goal to take away the strengths of the opponent. The defense is initially built with a 2-on-1 drill. The lone defender is taught to make the offense pass the ball as many times as possible by employing the "fake and drop" technique. On the shot, a good block successfully ends the drill. A progression drill is the 3-on-2 weave sprints. Teaching points are detailed and specific for the two defenders in this drill. To simulate defensive transition from a disadvantage situation, the Rush drill is demonstrated. Keys are playing to the level of the ball, ball pressure and making the offense do something on every catch. Lowery shares his drill progression starting with 2-on-1 and building all the way up to 5-on-5 play. An addition to the series of disadvantage drills is the Frenzy drill - five offensive players against four defenders where the goal is to get three consecutive shut-outs ...it's a 30-second drill, the defense must guard for an entire 30 seconds, and clock awareness is developed.

I really liked this video, which really is about just transition defense. It starts with 2 on 1 situations and builds up, with all of the drills building on the last. Lowery focuses a lot on how to minimize the amount of time the ball is in the other teams hands and how to force the opposing team into mistakes.
