Jerrod Calhoun established himself as an up-and-coming coach during his six seasons at Fairmont State University. Taking the helm in 2012, he transformed the Falcons into a regional power. Under his leadership, Fairmont State secured four NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, culminating in a national runner-up finish in 2017. He was recognized for his achievements, earning the 2017 Mountain East Conference Coach of the Year award.

In 2017, Calhoun accepted the head coaching position at Youngstown State University, in his home state. He seamlessly continued his winning ways, leading the Penguins to a significant turnaround. The turnaround culiminated in a Horizon Conference championship in 2023.

In 2017, Coach Kerns inherited a Presbyterian program that had yet to achieve a winning record in 12 seasons at the Division I level and was coming off a five-win campaign in 2016-17. He immediately led the Blue Hose to a six-win improvement in his first year before breaking through in 2018-19.

Kerns guided the Blue Hose to their first winning record (20-16) and first postseason appearance (CIT) as a Division I program in just his second year on the job. PC's 12-3 record at home and 9-7 mark in Big South Conference play are also its best since joining the Division I ranks. For his efforts, Kerns was named as a finalist for both the Hugh Durham Award (top mid-major coach) and the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year.

Kerns has continued his winning ways at Appalachian State. The Mountaineers brought home the Sun Belt tournament championship in 2021 and the regular season championship in 2024.

Ryan McCarthy became the Fresno State women's basketball coach on April 14, 2025. He runs a dynamic, high-pressure "Mayhem" style of play, characterized by full-court pressing and an aggressive tempo.

Prior to Fresno State, McCarthy led the University of Alaska Anchorage for 13 seasons, posting a 309-67 record and guiding the Seawolves to the 2016 NCAA Division II national championship game. His tenure included six GNAC Coach of the Year honors and a reputation for developing top-tier talent.

Duane Simpkins, head coach of the American University men's basketball team, has a highly accomplished career in basketball.

A McDonald's All-American at DeMatha Catholic High School under Hall of Fame coach Morgan Wootten, Simpkins went on to enjoy a successful collegiate career at the University of Maryland under legendary coach Gary Williams, where he was a three-time All-ACC Honorable Mention and helped lead the Terrapins to three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Prior to his arrival at American, Simpkins served as an assistant coach at George Mason, contributing to their success within the Atlantic 10 Conference. In his inaugural season at American in 2023, he guided the Eagles to a second-place finish in the conference.

Greg Heiar, a seasoned basketball coach with over two decades of experience, currently leads the men's basketball program at Trinity Valley Community College.

He guided the team to the 2025 NJCAA Division I National Championship and earned Coach of the Year honors. Previously, Heiar achieved a 29–3 season at Mineral Area College and secured a national title with Northwest Florida State in 2022.

His coaching tenure includes roles at LSU, Wichita State, and Chipola College, where he amassed a 164–15 record.
