Hall of Fame coach Bo Ryan has long been known as a coach who demands that his teams can handle pressure and take care of the basketball. He has also been a coach who employed full court pressure and an aggressive style of play in his early coaching career.

In this video, Coach Ryan breaks down his strategies for the full court diamond press. You will also see how to beat pressure with offensive strategies that will get the ball safely into your half-court offense.

Press Defense

There are many appealing factors to playing an aggressive style with full court pressure defense. Coach Ryan elaborates on the reasons why you might want to consider adding this dimension to your team.

The diamond press is a simple way to turn up the pressure for quick turnovers early in the defensive possession. Learn how to position the players on your team so they are playing a spot in the press that suits their strengths. Ryan breaks down the different trap opportunities available in the diamond press based on where the ball is inbounded. By charting the tendencies of your opponent, you will see how you can adjust your press to disrupt their game plan. You will also see how to increase the aggressiveness of the press to chase your opponent into second traps in the same possession.

Beating Pressure

Learn how to beat pressure defenses with concepts that have helped Coach Ryan's teams to consistently be one of the best teams in the country at taking care of the ball. You will learn the technique and thought process of the inbounder from the instant the possession starts. You'll also see how to quickly look up the floor to throw the deep pass beyond the press defense.

Ryan shows how his press break creates a progression of options and the sequence of reads that the inbounder must make within the first five seconds. The "Z the Court" concept will help your players to space the court to maximize receiver options as well as create ideal angles for advance passes. Ryan also shares how you can position your tallest player to make use of their size, rather than clear them out.

This video will help you learn how to attack and apply pressure from one of the most accomplished coaches in basketball.

I've purchased 19 videos for close to 20 years now from Championship and have always gotten at least some new ideas from each and applied it to my teams knowledge base of the game. This particular video has virtually no useful information in structuring a Diamond and 1 press. While he seems like a nice guy talking about whether he'd come back to coaching or not, the instruction is completely generic. It addresses only basic grade school basketball 101 principles, like clearing the backboard and running the baseline after an opponents score to inbound the ball or sprinting back if you get beat on an inbound pass or are unable to trap. I was hoping for a comprehensive look at the positional accountabilities and rules of applying the press in detail and Bo's take on how his teams got steals out of the press. This provides none of that.
