Coach Russ Rose led the Penn State Nittany Lions to one of the most impressive seasons in NCAA history. The Nittany Lions finished with a 38-o record, only one of four undefeated teams in NCAA Division I women’s volleyball history (Long Beach State, Nebraska, USC). The Nittany Lions successfully defended their 2007 national title with a 3-0 sweep of #2 ranked Stanford in the 2008 DI Volleyball Championship. Penn State only dropped two sets during the season (in the semifinals vs. Nebraska), and finished its year with its 37th sweep in 38 matches.
The Nittany Lions also became only the sixth team to repeat as national champions and the first since USC captured back-to-back title in 2002 and 2003. This is Penn State’s third national title in school history – all since 1999.
