Ellis Johnson Accepts Offer at South Carolina

Ellis Johnson has accepted the Defensive Coordinator position from Steve Spurrier at the University of South Carolina.  Johnson was named to the same position at Arkansas a few weeks earlier, but Johnson was looking to return to his home state.  Johnson was raised in the state & began his coaching in the high school, colleges, & universities of South Carolina.  Johnson was the head coach at The Citadel & Gardner-Webb, and was the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State, Alabama, Clemson, Southern Miss, and Appalachian State.

2008 Iowa Volleyball Coaches Clinic

The 2008 Iowa Volleyball Coaches Clinic will be held at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames, IA on February 29 - March 1, 2008.  The featured clinicians are:

Russ Rose (Penn State University) - Coach Rose captured his 2nd NCAA DI Championship in 2007 & was also selected as the 2007 AVCA Division I Coach of the Year.  Rose is only the third coach in Division I to pass the 900 career win plateau and owns a winning percentage of .853.

Christy Johnson (Iowa State University) - Coach Johnson was a 2X All-American at the University of Nebraska and has guided the ISU Cyclones to their second-straight berth in the NCAA tournament.  The Cyclones ended their 2007 season in the Regional Semifinal and finished 17th in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

Dave Shondell(Purdue University) - Coach Shondell has led the Purdue Boilermakers to four consecutive NCAA tournaments & a 3rd place Big Ten finish in 2007. 

Kirsten Bernthal Booth(Creighton University) - Coach Booth became Creighton’s all-time winningest coach & picked up career win 200, in 2007.

Tom Keating (former Dubuque Wahlert HS Coach) - Coach Keating was an 11X Iowa State Champion, 3X State Runner-Up, 17X Conference Champion, and compiled over 770 victories during his tenure.  He was also a 7X Iowa Coach of the Year and was the National Coach of the Year in 2003.

Dawn Sullivan (Iowa State University Assistant Coach) - Coach Sullivan is responsible for the outside hitters and has recorded three of the top-10 single season hitting percentages in school history (in three years as a coach).  As a player, Sullivan was names All-American and All-Big 12 as a senior.

Terry Gamble (Iowa Western Head Coach) - Coach Gamble has just completed his third season at Iowa Western, finishing 7th at the NJCAA Championships.  Gamble & his team won the 2006 NJCAA Championship and he was selected as the 2006 AVCA National Coach of the Year and the NJCAA Division I Coach of the Year.
