David Marsh feels that "swimming flat" is the first step to Gettin' Better at butterfly. The traditional days of the butterfly's classic up and over and down and under undulation have given away to a forward focused stroke that creates a much smaller and tighter "line" of undulation. Coach Marsh's butterfly instruction features NCAA All-American and Olympian Jeremy Knowles as the demonstrator. Marsh's butterfly instruction moves in sequence from body positioning, to the kick, the pull, the recovery and timing of the full stroke. Marsh first focuses upon establishing a feel for the flat body positioning with drills that focus upon undulating from the chest and core. He then shares drills and tips for a quick and efficient kick before moving into pull and recovery drills. Marsh finishes with timing drills that will help teach you to establish a low-profile flowing butterfly with the goal of going faster more efficiently.
