1-2-2 Containment Press Defense

DVD was very basic. Camera work was poor and hard to hear in one scene. The concepts were okay if you've never heard of a 1-2-2 before but very basic if you are familiar. I wouldn't waste my money on it.

This is a very good video for coaches that are unfamiliar with the 1-2-2 press. The video incorporates the use of Coach Gonzalez explaining on a white board with marker, while also using a real team. I really liked the terminology he used such as "short middle" and "long middle" which is good teaching vocabulary for players to help understand their assignments. Also, this may be typical for most coaches, but "bumping" players out of the middle was a nice pick-up in this video as well.

It's very simple to watch, as it cuts back and forth between whiteboard and practice footage, and it's simple to understand which will allow you to successfully install this into your team's defensive package.

This is a great DVD for teams that want to run a 1-2-2 Press Defense. Coach does a great job of explaining the basics of this DVD. Coach goes over the proper rotations in this defense and where players are supposed to be in case the ball runs into a players area.

This was an easy to understand DVD. I was able to start using this DVD with my summer team and we were able to go from a really passive team to an aggressive team in the matter of a few days. This press was easy to install and the players really enjoyed this DVD. I was able to go from a 1-2-2 press into our 2-3 Zone with easy.

Great DVD to have if you are installing the 1-2-2 Press.

This video presents the Containment 1-2-2 clearly and concisely. The movements, traps, and various options are broken down in a good mix of explanation and visual examples.

This is particularly a great dvd for anyone who has never pressed before. We don't use a 3/4 court press but we use a 1-2-2 allignment in halfcourt and fullcourt traps which have been very effective, it also reverts back to a 2-3 zone easily with the top man dropping into cente. Our team has used these 1-2-2 presses to come from 20 points down as well as beat teams that would have beaten us.

However, the dvd doesnt not show you what happens if the point attacks the middle of the press off the dribble when he receives a pass back from a trapped player, that is only way that any team has been able to break our 1-2-2 press.

Gonzalez calls this a containment press which with a shot clock is probably the best use for it. At the HS level, I took the principles and slides he shows and put a little more aggressive tone with my front three players.

It helped us come from 19 down in the second half to win a game by 5 and go 3-0 in OT games because we were able to wear down more talented teams. The press does work very well with length up front and speed in the back, we only had a little of both and it still was a weapon.
