Whether you’re trying to keep a high-powered, spread offense out of rhythm by continuously using pressure from a variety of areas, or if you need to change the momentum of a game by unleashing an unexpected blitz, the ability to ‘bring the heat’ in any situation, keeps your defense dynamic and forces an opponent to account for your blitzing a variety of locations.
Applying pressure on an opponent’s QB comes in many forms. If your defensive line is strong, then a well-timed blitz can cause many a sleepless night for offensive coordinators. Conversely, if your defense lacks the ability to collapse the pocket with your defensive front, then a creative, well-disguised blitz – whether it be from the backside, use of line games, stunts or overloads – serves as football’s great equalizer.
