A lot of teams go to a 2-3 zone on defense for baseline inbound plays. Do you have a play that can get you a quick layup against the zone? Kevin Boyle, Montverde Academy (Florida) head coach and 2011 Naismith National High School Boys Basketball Coach of the Year, shows you a sneaky play to get a post a layup against the 2-3.
Baseline Inbound vs. 2-3 Zone
Drill Summary: With the defense in a 2-3 zone, put a shooter in front of the rim in the lane, have your point guard take the ball out of bounds, put your remaining guard at the top of the key and have a big just outside each block. To begin, the ball-side post screens the middle of the zone. As this happens, the shooter runs to the ball-side corner and calls for the ball. If the bottom player of the zone runs out to cover the 3-pointer, have the opposite big come off the middle screen for a quick pass and a layup.
