Without a good stance and motion, a wrestler is vulnerable to attack and can quickly find themselves in an unfavorable situation. Duane Goldman, Indiana University head coach and four time All-American at the University of Iowa, shows you a drill to practice staying in an ideal stance.
Stance & Motion
Drill Summary: To be in a good stance, wrestlers should be on the balls of their feet and stay loose by bouncing up and down. After doing that for a bit, end the drill by putting your feet on the ground and your hands on your knees, then drop your hands and bring them up. Coach Goldman says wrestlers should be comfortable in their stance and only move around by going forward or circling. Moving backward can put you on your heels and open up an opportunity for your opponent to attack. Instead, circle to change direction while avoiding crossing your feet.
