Battling out of the bottom position can sometimes be a challenge for wrestlers, but when you can do it consistently, it can become a weapon. Kevin Dresser, Virginia Tech head coach, demonstrates a change over that will allow you to quickly escape from your opponent and get to your feet.
The Change Over
Drill Summary: With the bottom wrestler set and the top man on, the bottom athlete shifts their weight into their opponent and sits to their butt. As they’re getting to their butt, it’s important to keep their feet in close so they don’t get too sprawled out. Once they get to their butt, change their feet over and switch the hand controlling the opponent’s wrist. After that, try to create space between you and the opponent and stand up.
