Since her arrival to Iowa State as head coach in 2004, Johnson-Lynch has redirected the program's legacy to one of winning and high performing finishes year after year. In 2025, Iowa State was back to the NCAA tournament, the 17th time in 21 seasons with Johnson-Lynch at the helm and made it back to the second round for the 9th time in her career.
In November 2024, she became the third ranked volleyball coach in Big XII history in wins by notching her 207th Big XII victory. In November 2025, Johnson-Lynch hit the 400 win milestone. Over her storied career, she has had ten seasons with 20 or more wins, including the 27 win 2009 season and in 2018 when Iowa State won the NIVC Championship.
In 2022, Johnson-Lynch was named the AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year. In 2009, Johnson-Lynch was named the Big XII Coach of the Year, the Asics/Volleyball Magazine National Coach of the Year and the AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year. Her involvement at the national level included a term on the AVCA Board of Directors and as AVCA President in 2018.
As an athlete, she was a 2x All American at Nebraska (setter) and a member of Nebraska's first NCAA Championship team in 1995. A member of the 1989 US Junior National Team, a member of the 1993 US National 'B' Team and won a league championship as a member of the Nebraska Tornadoes in 1988
