Niceville High School (Florida) has claimed five state championships in recent years, and the throwers were a major part of each title run. The throwing program has achieved both rapid growth and sustained success across boys and girls programs.

As one of the most successful throws coaches in the US, Emily Webb has developed a teaching system that is both repeatable and scalable-proven at the high school level and now at the middle school level. In this detailed instructional video, Coach Webb shares a complete blueprint for teaching the shot put.

Webb breaks the shot put into three teachable parts: Power Position, Step Back, and Full Glide. She demonstrates correct hand placement, grip, and the importance of a consistent pre-throw checklist. Daily drills and explosive warm-ups help reinforce these key fundamentals.

Coach Webb shows how to use wrist wraps, medicine balls, PVC pipes and resistance bands to give throwers quality feedback and strengthen essential movements.

The video includes drills and progressions for each phase of the throw, beginning at the front of the ring and building backward. Standing Throws and Half Throws progress naturally toward the Full Glide, giving athletes a clear path for mastering the full sequence.

Webb also demonstrates modifications, regressions and progressions to address common errors and accelerate skill development.

In addition, she shares her system for organizing weekly practices balancing heavy, medium and pre-meet days to ensure athletes peak at the right time.
