with Frank Busch,
USA Swimming National Team Director; 2x U.S. Olympic Swim Coach,
former University of Arizona Head Coach; 2x NCAA Championship Coach; 6x National Coach of the Year; member of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Hall of Fame (2008)
and the Arizona Coaching Staff

Coach Frank Busch feels that the catch, body position and the line are the most crucial components for successful freestyle and that the kick is the key factor that determines the effectiveness of these components. Following a narration of a full stroke demonstration of the ideal freestyle Busch moves into several key drills that are at the heart of the "Arizona brand" of freestyle swimming. Rick Demont discusses the role of upper extremity angles and elevations for successful freestyle. Demont then shares more than 10 specifically designed drills/variations to help a swimmer "etch" the feel of varying "difficult/key" positions of the stroke so that those positions are recognizable to the swimmer while swimming full stroke. To connect the parts to the whole of the stroke, Greg Rhodenbaugh shares a drill series with varying arm positions of the recovering arm that reinforce the elements of Arizona freestyle. Augie Busch next takes on the issue of body rotation as it pertains to leverage for the stroke, sharing a drill progression that address a swimmer's connection of the catch to the body roll and kick. Each of the segments concludes with elite swimmers doing a descending set of 4 x 25's that gives a clear cut look at how each of the drill progressions relate to the stroke efficiency and speed.

This dvd at times seems to be a little bit repetitive at times. This repetitiveness is possibly due to each coach putting their own spin on one particular drill. The good thing about all the dvds in this series is that the coaches follow the KISS principle in their coaching, thus the instructions are simple to follow and can be used by swimmers of all standards.

Good instructional DVD for freestyle. Helpful drills. I like it. Thinking about getting DVDs for other strokes also.

I cannot the erase the below review I wrote so I want to add; after purchasing more than 7 DVDs and relooked at this product repeatedly. I would say this is an excellent product in the following regards; video shots of different speeds of swimming and drills from various angles, fast to slow motion speed, and usually there are two swimmers doing the same move so that I got a very good understanding of what is supposed to be done. This is a superb instruction video for someone who doesn't know how elite swimmers swim the way they do. If you are slow swimmer wanting to get faster, I highly recommend this product.

Great value with 4 different coaches explaining and having swimmers to demonstrate various drills and swimming with specific focus. The understanding of what they are trying to convey increases as there are 4 coaches and 7 swim demonstrators. As someone who had experiences with some direct instruction from non-high calibre race coach or swim instruction videos of non-university race level, I purchased this with two other 2010 or newer videos. For me those combination of three videos solved unclear understanding of various elements often talked about; body position, high elbow, catch position etc. I am very clear and getting clear results in a week.
