Features & Benefits Learn how to keep the ball out of the paint while turning up the ball pressure Discover ways to use the flip-flop zone to take away the vulnerable high post Teach your defenders to flip-flop to shut down dribble penetration Learn how to aggressively disrupt ball screens, post feeds and weak side flashes, and disrupt your opponent's offense with Andy Landers, University of Georgia Head Women's Basketball Coach;distinguished member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame (2007);4x National Coach of the Year; has led Georgia to 5 NCAA Final Four appearances; 7x SEC Champions; over 900 career winsFor the first time anywhere, legendary University of Georgia Head Women's Basketball Coach Andy Landers shows how to increase ball pressure and prevent the ball from getting into the paint with his twist on the 2-3 zone defense. The key to this defense is the "flip-flop" rotations that allow interchangeable players to cover multiple spots on the floor. The defense is explained in a three-part, on-court player demonstration featuring: guard responsibilities and rotations forward responsibilities and rotations live 5-on-5Guard ResponsibilitiesCoach Landers shows how the two guards-one high and one at the high post-start in the defense. He explains their responsibilities and shows how they effectively eliminate perimeter penetrations using his "Flip-Flop" philosophy between the two players. Learn how the guards rotate to apply ball pressure and deny the high post at all times versus ball movement, player movement and changing alignments along the perimeter. Coach Landers also shows how to eliminate dribble penetration by using run and jump principles to help on a blow-by or to disrupt ball screens. The rotations allow these two players to keep pressure on the ball while the rest of the defense protects the paint. To close this segment, he discusses how guards defend the low post for situations where they need to double team the player. Foward ResponsibilitiesAgain using his "Flip-Flop" philosophy, Coach Landers demonstrates how to cover the low post, corner, wing and, the most dangerous spot for a zone, the short corner. He starts by showing how the defense doubles any time the low post player gets the ball in the paint. You'll see how his backline defenders work together to deny the post from ever catching the ball while also extending their coverage to the perimeter by pressuring the ball at the wing and corner locations. Finally, Coach Landers explains how to use the weak side defender to guard flashes and to help with post defense on the ball side. These rotations give your team a structure to crowd the paint and lock down star post players. Several details are covered, including where the defender should line up when the ball is on the wing . Throughout the presentation, Coach Landers covers game-like situations that every zone defense faces. Coach Landers gives you a clear system for implementing a zone defense that prevents the ball from touching the paint while allowing your players to turn up the ball pressure.Produced at the Spring 2014 WBCA Convention in Nashville (TN).54 minutes. 2014. Ratings & Reviews The 2-3 Flip-Flop Zone Defense on August 12, 2018 Currently 5/5 Stars.5/5 Stars 5 by Coach M49 Great explanation and demonstration of how two guards up top guard in a 2-3. Excellent drills and makes great sense. Baseline coverage is good if you have an athletic five man. If your five is slow and must be anchored in middle baseline concept not useful. But the concept up top good for any program. Great coach. Was this review helpful? It's also a basic 1-1-3 zone offense with a different name on it. The Flip Flop represents a two person defensive front, with one guard on the ball and one covering the high post. They alternate back & forth depending on where the ball is, with the change happening when the ball goes to a wing, or when there is penetration or a two guard offense. Different rotations are shown for each situation, including double teaming when the ball goes into the low post and the short cut when the ball is in the corner (as in 1-3-1). Coach does show fronting the low post here, with the weak side helping on the back side. One downside is that rather than explain what he wants, Coach Landers instead puts them in situations and yells at the players to catch up and figure it out. If you like the 1-1-3 zone I would also recommend the Terri Mitchell video which is longer and I think goes into more details. 5/5 stars, a good introduction to a defense that doesn't get a lot of love. 1 of 1 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful? The video quality and instuctions was simple but detailed. I coach a team of youth under 14 years old and we trained and learned it in 2 weeks. Coach Landers has some great little ideas on a 2-3. Flip Flopping dribble penetration- playing ball screens are worth a look. I think his defense of the short corner pass is very good. You may not take the whole defense but there are parts that may improve your zone. 10 of 10 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful?
