Smart Basketball Training: Ball HandlingSmart Basketball Training: Ball Handling
with Austin McBeth,

Every up-and-coming basketball player wants to handle the rock. However, improving your dribbling abilities takes dedication and hours spent in the gym doing drills that push you to your limits, and not many people possess the passion to complete the work necessary to become an elite ball handler.

In this video, you'll get 30 ball handling drills from the Smart Basketball Training program that will not only increase your dribbling skills but also teach you the mental aspect of basketball that separates the good players from the great ones. SBT's lead trainer, Austin McBeth, will guide you through every drill, explain how to set each drill up, and give you exactly what you need to improve your game. If you're passionate about improving your ball handling, these drills are exactly what you need!

Stationary

McBeth starts by running through stationary drills that work on ball control and dribbling speed. You'll learn the pound series, escape dribble, wall touches, floor touches and more. According to McBeth, one of the keys to controlling a dribble is realizing that almost all of the time, the ball is lost on the catch as opposed to the pound. The harder you pound the ball, the more likely you are to maintain a tight dribble, catch the ball, and avoid turning it over.

On The Move

Once you've mastered the Smart Basketball Training stationary ball handling exercises, it's time to work on dribbling on the move. Some of the drills you'll get include the zig zag series, double move series, triple move series, retreat square up, and pull back dribble. Everyone wants to cross up their defender and blow by them for the highlight finish - this section is where you'll develop those skills!

With Contact and Objects

Whether you're in the gym by yourself or with a partner, McBeth has drills with contact and objects that will help you put the finishing touches on your best moves. Cones, pads, chairs and more are all included in these drills and will force you to get out of your comfort zone in order to become a better player.

With Austin McBeth and Smart Basketball Training's ball handling drills, you'll be able to elevate your dribbling abilities to a whole new level!

former Friends University (KS) Head Coach;

Whether you're the player that opposing teams are told to sag off of on defense or someone who's simply looking to up your shooting percentages, look no further than this video from Smart Basketball Training's Austin McBeth.

You'll get 29 shooting drills designed to help you improve your footwork, balance, release and ability to create space so you can begin making teams pay whenever you take a jump shot. Not only will you learn ways to enhance your jumper, but you'll also learn to become a more intelligent player to get yourself the best shot possible in any situation.

Catch and Shoot

Before anything else, you must learn how to shoot well off the catch. McBeth gives you drills that you can do by yourself or with a partner to help you learn to catch the ball and get a shot off quickly, which will make it harder for defenders to contest your shot. Additionally, you'll learn to pump fake, relocate, and jab step to keep the defense honest. Once you've perfected your catch and release, you'll learn goal-oriented exercises that will challenge you to make a specific number of shots in order to complete the drill.

On the Move/Off the Dribble

When you begin to feel more comfortable shooting spot-up jumpers, you'll want to add another dimension to your game - shooting on the move and off the dribble. Having the ability to shoot off of screens or create your own shot will give the defense fits as they try to guard you.

You'll learn drills that simulate catching and shooting on the run and others like the Diamond Chair Drill that force you to go through a brief ball handling routine before transitioning into a shot. There's also a variety of drills in this section that serve the secondary purpose of building your endurance so you can play at a higher level without getting tired.

Combination

Once you've mastered catching and shooting, shooting on the move and shooting off the dribble, it's time to put all of them together. You'll get drills that string together ball handling, movement and shooting so you can master the toughest moves and be ready to break them out with the game on the line.

Smart Basketball Training's drills have everything you need to become a better shooter. Turn your shot into a deadly weapon today!

To become a complete offensive player, you must compliment a good shooting stroke with the ability to get past a defender and finish around the basket. Austin McBeth, Smart Basketball Training's lead trainer, gives you 19 drills in this video that will boost your finishing skills and help you become a huge threat to score every time you drive to the hoop. Additionally, you'll not only learn the physical part of the game, but also the thinking behind each move and when to use the right move at the right time.

Without Contact

The key to becoming a great finisher is to train yourself to anticipate, react and beat any situation the defense wants to force you into. In this section, you'll learn different moves to execute on the way to the hoop and also learn to pair them with various styles of laying the ball in. Notable moves include the Euro step, slide shot, Paxson, pro hop and floater.

With Contact

An aspect that many players struggle with when it comes to finishing is absorbing contact from the defense. As athletes continue to move up in levels of basketball, officials begin allowing more contact around the rim, making it more important to learn to finish through the defense's physicality. You'll get drills and instruction that feature a partner with a pad to train yourself to explode through contact and get more accurate around the rim - even if you take a hit in the middle of your finish.

With Objects

The final series of drills takes advantage of cones, chairs and stand up dummies to simulate game situations. McBeth teaches you how to use a cone as if it's a defender slowing you down, a chair as if it's a live defender, and a stand up dummy to play the part of a post defender in the lane that you must shoot over. Every drill is designed to prepare you for common scenarios so you'll be ready to attack and score.

If you're looking for a video to help you get better at finishing, look no further than this comprehensive guide from Smart Basketball Training.

Passing is one of the most underrated skills in the game of basketball. Players who can pass the ball effectively make their teammates better and put them in position to score the ball.

Smart Basketball Training's lead trainer, Austin McBeth, gives you 17 passing drills that include exercises which can be completed with a partner and others that are perfect for when you're in the gym by yourself. Not only will you learn drills to improve your passing, but McBeth will also explain when and why to use different types of passes, giving you the knowledge to beat the defense by dropping dimes at the right times.

With a Partner

If you're practicing with your team or just with a friend, McBeth has a variety of drills you can use in a partner format. You'll learn how to throw better lead passes, back door bounce passes, pocket passes, flare passes and more!

The drills don't just have you and your partner standing around throwing the ball back and forth - they have each of you simulating game-like motions on the court so you'll be able to recognize when to throw every type of pass during the heat of competition.

Without a Partner

There will be times where your friends are busy and you still want to get in the gym and work on your passing. Luckily, McBeth shows you a variety of one-handed and two-handed passing drills you can do against a wall that will work great in a solo format. Not only will you pass against a wall, but you'll also practice passing immediately following different styles of crossovers so you'll develop muscle memory and be more comfortable throwing off the dribble.

Whether you're a point guard looking to rack up more assists or someone who plays another position that's simply looking to develop your passing skills, this video from Smart Basketball Training will give you the drills you need to pass like a pro.

My 13yo and I have been going through the drills at the gym on Saturdays and Sundays. They are a great workout. Using the App to download them and mark favorites is the best.

This is for only higher level coaches. High school or older. My kids are middle school players, and while the drills may help them at the peak of their development. It does nothing for them right now. The videos aren't bad. The truth is you could probably get most of these drills on YouTube also. Actually you could get better drills on YouTube.
