Coach Cal is, as always, entertaining and engaging to watch. He interacts well with his audience while keeping his players focused on their drills, using punishments such as ten-second runs when necessary. There is a great emphasis on two handed passing, catching, and rebounding, and fighting hard at all times without fouling, which is something coaches at every level stress. It's funny to see that Cal still has to coach those small but important details to his uber-talented "one and done" players.
As much as Coach Calipari is known for the DDM, especially in his stint with Memphis and early years with Kentucky, I appreciate this video more for the simple defensive and rebounding drills than the DDM material. The "Box Closeout", "Stunt and Steal", and "Pads Rebounding" drills are simple but effective and strengthen fundamentals. I also liked, what I call, "Jump to the Ball 1-on-1", which essentially combines Tom Izzo's "Jump to the Ball" with a simple "1-on-1 Driving Line" drill. K.I.S.S.
The only reason I gave the DVD a 4 out of 5 is that there's very little 5-on-5 play. I would've liked to have seen the team use all the skills they learned in their drills in a full court setting with Coach Cal stopping the action from time to time to correct and/or adjust. Otherwise, very solid DVD.
