with Fran Fraschilla,
International Basketball Analyst for ESPN;
former Division 1 college basketball coach (Manhattan College, St. John's University, and University of New Mexico);
former NABC District II Coach of the Year & MAAC Coach of the Year

Execution in late game situations is what separates master coaches from the rest of the pack. Will your players be able to fall back on solid instincts and make smart decisions under pressure? Are you as a coach able to decipher the many variables in action and select the play that will give you the best opportunity to win? The more planned out you are for all stages of the game, the better prepared and focused your team will be.

Fran Fraschilla studies the game of basketball from a unique vantage point as a former college head coach and current analyst for ESPN. In this video, Coach Fraschilla shares all of the lessons he has learned to excel in the game's most intense situations. You will gain strategies for organizing your special situation philosophy, including baseline plays, sideline inbound plays, and multiple options into your half court sets.

Baseline Inbound

See how you can find a way to score through baseline inbound plays no matter what your opponent tries to take away. The "P Set" gives your players multiple scoring options to find the best course of action by reading the defense. Coach Fraschilla shows you five variations to this main play, including counters and options for using the play against zone and trapping defenses.

Sideline Inbound

Learn how to apply your best half court plays into sideline inbound situations. This will enable you to use your trusted plays in the most critical moments. Coach Fraschilla will show you his "X" play that incorporates multiple screening options to free up shooters. You will also see four late game plays for getting the exact shot you need in the final seconds of a game. Whether you need to draw up a play to score at the rim or you need an open 3-point shot, Fraschilla has an option for you.

Half Court Offense

Fraschilla shows you how to add depth to your playbook without confusing your players. Using wrinkles in your favorite plays, you can develop layers into each and every one of your sets.

To demonstrate this concept, Coach Fraschilla shows you five simple options that can be created from the Horns set. You'll learn options for opening up driving gaps with the "Ghost" action and how to scramble opponents with the stagger screen in the "Double C" play. You'll also see how to enhance your ball screens with strategies to re-screen defenses that go under ball screens and burn opponents that attempt to trap the ball.

Special Situation Philosophy

In addition to all the on-court action, Coach Fraschilla discusses important considerations for your off-season preparation towards special situations. He shares the 3 C's of special situations, how to apply them to your practices, and which five coaching traits should constantly be on your mind to maximize your team's success. He'll also bring to your attention the moments in the game that you should be developing plans for and the best way to approach making those decisions with your staff.

Make sure you have a plan when the pressure is peaking in the critical moments of a game! Coach Fraschilla will get you ready to dominate special situations with concepts, plays, and strategies for success.

I agree with the prior two reviewers that there's quite a bit of talking, but for me it doesn't take away from the value of the DVD. Lots of good coaching knowledge given by Coach Fraschilla. I think his other special situations video is a better buy, but that doesn't mean this one isn't good too.

Agree with the above review. Too much talking, not enough time spent on sets.
