Christie Sides: Creating a Compassionate, Hardworking Culture + Winning Special Situation Plays

Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides has learned from some of the best mentors in the game today! Being an assistant for the Chicago Sky, Indiana Fever, and Atlanta Dream helped her develop a sense of the culture she is building with the Fever as a head coach.

Having some of the best young players in the game allows you to get creative and do different things off of sets. From baseline out of bounds to secondary break entries to sideline out of bounds sets she has a game plan for any situation. Culture
Being great at the 'relationship game' is critical in any profession; in basketball, fostering positive relationships is everything! Understanding how players think and feel will continue to grow your culture. Coach Sides has a young group of talented, emerging players that have been drafted in the WNBA and she is charged with helping them reach their best - and this begins with building relationships and helping them build pro habits. She describes the little things she has helped her young core learn when it comes to being a pro.

Special Situations
Demonstrating a smorgasbord of set plays, Coach Sides will help you expand and grow your playbook! Secondary break scoring options to get your player an open 3 or use a pick and roll to attack the paint and open up teammates for scoring options off of a kick out.

Sideline out of bound sets are also shown. With Celtic, you can use it at the end of a game to get an open 3 coming back towards the inbounder with a second option to use a pin down and get another open 3. In Celtic Hammer, players continue the play and look for a corner 3 shot. This is a set you will want to add to your playbook!

In Slice, you can use multiple scoring options to get a bigger guard posting up on the block and another shooter coming off of a double stagger. By subbing your post player into the inbound spot, you can get your post player a great look to post up or an easy bucket around the rim.

In Boot, you can use misdirection action to get an easy bucket close to the rim. Using the 1st cutter as a decoy, you can get your second cutter a shot at the rim coming off of a stagger screen.

Coach Sides will give you a wide variety of special situation plays that she is looking to use with her young core of players. Having recently obtained one of the most widely anticipated WNBA players with the #1 overall pick in the 2024 draft (Caitlin Clark), Sides wants her full playbook in effect to show how Clark and others can use their scoring ability to get lots of buckets. These are simple and effective sets you can use to expand your playbook and own the special situations game in your league!
