Ball Screen Offense: Spacing, Timing & Reads
In this video, Sam Houston's Chris Mudge builds his ball screen offense from the ground up, teaching you how to develop spacing, timing, and reads that create high-value scoring opportunities. Using a systematic progression, you'll see how to introduce ball screen actions in layers, from basic on-ball concepts to advanced techniques that challenge even the best defenses.

What You'll Learn:

  • Establish three levels of ball screen actions to build a continuity offense.
  • Teach guards what to read instead of just playing against their defender.
  • Use spread and zoom entries to attack defenses from different alignments.
  • Add boomerang and throwback actions to counter hedges, switches, and rotations.
  • Incorporate passing and shooting drills that simulate game-like reads and decision-making.
  • Master how to distort the tag defender to open up rollers, shooters, and driving lanes.

Coach Mudge emphasizes the importance of angles, reads, and actions, breaking down not only what to run, but what to teach your players in each scenario. By the end, you'll have a complete framework to develop a versatile, efficient, and unpredictable ball screen offense tailored to your team's personnel.

Whether you're looking to add variety to your current system or overhaul your half-court attack, this video equips you with the tools to teach, install, and execute a modern ball screen offense that keeps defenses on their heels!

First off, I appreciate Coach Mudge and Championship Productions for taking the time and effort on putting this together. However, I am disappointed in this video. The things that I dislike about this video are:
1) The whole build up concept. Maybe I was sleepy when I first watched, so I rewatched and rewatched this video three more times and each time, I was shocked. The build of the offense was a basic walk through.

2). The Level 1 and 2 were just coach talking and walking the players through the steps. Nobody shot the ball just 2-3 passes and then we moved on to another concept.

3). Concepts. Screen reads. The only thing that jumped out was the clever line of "If the defender is even, we (offensive player) leaving" other than that, nothing else.

4). Skill Development and Shooting- Coach had two players throwing 4-5 passes and then moved on to the shooting drills, which maybe 2-3 shots were actually taken. We heard alot about each player getting shots just never saw anybody shooting.
5). Entries/Actions- Again, heard about the possible actions and a quick run down on entries of the offense.

I am given this a 2-Star rating. In these economic times, just wait for this video to go into the Coach Camp platform. I have already sent my email in for a credit or refund. As a long time member of Championship Production, this video is not a true reflection of the type of quality material Championship Production turns out.

2-Stars
