Generally I am nervous about purchasing DVDs from coaches that I have never heard of, and the short video samples don't help either. But knowing that coach Steph Wood/Coach Lori Drake came from the Ganon Baker camp, all of my skepticism went away pretty quickly, and I wasn't too disappointed.
Positives:
The coaches know their craft. Great teaching points throughout. The coaches used ten teachers; standard one is about how to use screens. We got the high/flat/horn/baseline/sideline. Standard two was feeding the post, which is an lost art. Standard three was how a wing player can position themselves when their teammate drives and kicks it out. Standard four how to create space for yourself when on the wing. Standard five-seven were about the mid-range game, how to work the floor in transition, and other helpful shooting drills. Standards eight-ten were blended in because there were no other announcement letting you know after standards five-seven. The DVD also threw in the floater,euro-step/euro-fade, and the reverse pivot.
There were tons of drills. I like working with chair drills, and this DVD had several ideas that a coach can use. My favorite one was the triple, triple threat drill. Same with cone drills. The creating space and the five spot drills were wonderful and I will use them during practice for my team.
Negative(s):
Post passing. Nice that they showed how to throw into the post. But not every pass is going to be easy. I wish that they would have demonstrated a "fake high/throw low" post entry pass or vice versa. Another negative was towards the end. The standards. I got confused because all through the DVD, they were announcing the standards. When it got to V,VI,VII those three were combined and then VIII, IX,and X were...???? So I was a little confused. But I think that it was blended in :)
But I am geeked about this DVD series. If the other two are like the Wing series, I am all in. Coach Steph and Coach Lory are excellent coaches. They know the game. They are excellent teachers. And their love of the game is evident throughout the DVD. Great stuff.
