Learn How to Balance Your Training and Racing Schedule!

By dustin.moscoso - Last updated: Monday, December 1, 2014

Grinnell College Head Track & Field and Cross Country Coach, Will Freeman, discusses one of the major problems in high school track coaching – the problem of too many meets. Developing speed and champions takes intensive training mixed with periods of recovery. Two meets per week upsets the athlete’s ability to have proper recovery time.

Training vs. Racing

Coach Freeman develops the three day rule: the athlete needs 72 hours to recover from an intense workout and with meets on Tuesday and Friday or Saturday, there is not sufficient time.
