The University of Maryland field hockey team has been selected as the #1 team in the 2009 Preseason Kookaburra / NFHCA DI Poll. Maryland, coached by Missy Meharg, Tjerk Van Herwaarden, and Marybeth Freeman, will look to repeat their 2008 NCAA title and win their 7th NCAA championship. The rest of the NFHCA rankings include:

We have recently released four new field hockey DVDs featuring Tjerk Van Herwaarden! Van Herwaarden is the Technical Director at the University of Maryland – the 2008 NCAA Field Hockey Champions! Van Herwaarden’s technical expertise earned him a Level III coaching certification, the highest accreditation by the USFHA, in the fall of 2007. He is one of only five coaches in the United States to have reached Level III status and has been given the recommendation to complete an International FIH Coaching Course.
