Use the Momentum of a Takedown to Score Back Points!

By nate.landas - Last updated: Friday, September 13, 2013

2X World Champion, Terry Brands, shows you how to create seamless transitions from set-up to takedown. Score back points by transitioning from the feet to the turk in any situation.

Double Leg Takedown

Instruction: Off of a double leg takedown, if the opponent gets to his belly, the attacking athlete can immediately look to continue his drive, lift the near leg and turk the bottom leg for nearfall points. The attacking athlete can also control the hip bone of the opponent with his far elbow and go immediately into a hip tilt or gut wrench turn. Coach Brands also emphasizes the elbow control of the hip. The hip control is also a key element of going immediately into an ankle lace turn from this position for Freestyle wrestling.

Takedown Techniques for Freestyle & Folkstyle Wrestling!

By nate.landas - Last updated: Friday, August 16, 2013

Presented in this segment, is a duck under position by coach and former wrestler at the University of Iowa, Terry Brands. In either style, Coach Brands demonstrates how to take your opponent directly to his back for nearfall points in folkstyle or a 3 point takedown in freestyle.

Coach Brands demonstrates taking the opponent to his back from a double leg. Finally, Terry shows how to go directly into a tight waist tilt from these positions if the opponent is able to belly down. This technique will also work in both folk or freestyle.

2X World Champion, Terry Brands, will teach you folkstyle and freestyle techniques in this video.  Coach Brands begins by demonstrating drilling a hi-c or double leg position to a trapped arm guttwrench. He then demonstrates the same technique to a trapped arm cheap tilt for folkstyle.

From the referee’s position, Brands shows the same technique for a cheap tilt or a chicken wing jump sides tilt from the arm bar.

Create Relentless Offense to Score More Points!

By nate.landas - Last updated: Friday, April 12, 2013

See emphasis on the benefit of going straight to a turn off of your takedowns in both freestyle and folkstyle wrestling. Current Iowa Hawkeye Assistant Coach and Olympic medalist, Terry Brands believes that we often relax and let up when we score instead of transitioning immediately to a turn. Wear down your opponent with these exceptional wrestling techniques.

From a high crotch takedown, coach Brands demonstrates going right into a leg turk or a guttwrench turn to freestyle wrestling.
