Long time youth volleyball coach and president of the Eastside Volleyball Club, Tim Vande Schraaf, helps young athletes with passing techniques and encourages them to call for the ball. Parents can get involved in this drill which develops their understanding of the game too.
Because the players are young, expectations are not high based on their developing abilities so methods of moving the drill along are discussed. The drill should be run in both directions so players get accustomed to moving both ways. A variation on the drill can use overhead passing.

University of Georgia Head Volleyball Coach, Lizzy Stemke, focuses on techniques that work on First Ball Side Out principles. The Passer on the Box will develop the proper use of the arm swing in order to push the ball toward the target with greater accuracy.
Vary the speed of the toss depending on the ability/age level of your athletes.
Recipient of USA Volleyball’s All-Time Great Coach Award, Ruth Nelson, actively engages both parents and players as they develop their volleyball skills. Coach Nelson helps players progress to passing, setting, and attacking. Parents not only help coach their daughters, but participate in drills with their children.
