Missy Meharg, Tjerk Van Herwaarden, and Marybeth Freeman guided the University of Maryland field hockey team to a runner-up finish in the NCAA national tournament. The Terps fell 3-2 against a strong North Carolina team who scored with less than a minute to play.
Maryland finished with a 23-1 record, the most wins in program history! Over the course of the season, the Terps broke five school records along with an ACC and a NCAA tournament record, and tied another NCAA Tournament record.
The top-seeded Maryland field hockey team, coached by Missy Meharg, Tjerk Van Herwaarden, and Marybeth Freeman, advanced to its second consecutive NCAA national championship game with a victory over #4 Princeton. The 2008 NCAA champions are 23-0 and are looking for their seventh national title when they meet North Carolina on Sunday.
