In the 5-1, the hitters rotate to the front row with the setter. The hitters to the right and the left of the setter are the team’s strongest players.

This formation has 4 hitters and 2 setters and places 2 setters in the front row along with 1 outside hitter. One setter is in the middle at the net, the other setter is on the side and the outside hitter is on the other outside. The outside setter and hitters are slightly behind or back from the center setter. A good hitter should be stationed at the mid-line behind the setter for a quick hit at the net.
