Teach Youth Cheerleaders Jumping Technique!

By Kevin Fitzpatrick - Last updated: Tuesday, May 31, 2016

Britten Blackburn is the President/CEO at the Alabama Cheerleading Center and also serves as the head coach of the Bama All Starz in Bessemer, Alabama. In this clip from his Cheer Champs: Skills & Drills for Youth Cheerleading video, Coach Blackburn addresses the keys to teaching youth cheerleaders how to jump.

The most important parts of jumping, as Coach Blackburn explains, are arm position, creating power, pointing the toes, and utilizing good posture and balance. Though height is important, Coach Blackburn points out that it will come later as youth athletes’ muscles get stronger.
