Rob Fulford has been the coach for one of the top high school basketball programs in the U.S. over the past couple of years. Here you will see a drill called “Group Pick & Roll Shooting”, where Coach Fulford puts his team through a side pick and roll breakdown drill. Huntington Prep uses a good amount of side ball screens in both transition and half court offense. The beauty of this drill is that it gets all three players involved.
Drill Setup: You only need two baskets for this drill.
Athlete Movements: The drill starts as the post player sets a side ball screen for the guard around the free throw line extended. The ball handler uses the ball screen and drives middle. The post player then rolls to the basket. A perimeter player in the corner replaces in the area where the ball screen was set. The main point of emphasis for this drill is that the three players involved need to read the defense and see if there is going to be help defense on the post player rolling to the rim. If there is no help, the player rolling to the rim gets the ball for a strong finish. If there is help on the roller, the replacement player should get a three-point shot on the wing. At the end of the drill, each player gets a touch and a shot.

Iowa State Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Fred Hoiberg, has implemented an offensive system with his Cyclones that can light up a scoreboard with numerous scoring options every time down the floor. Follow along as Coach Hoiberg shows his flex set out of a 4-out 1-in traditional secondary look. This play creates space and opens up several scoring options.
Athlete Movements: The point guard will hit the trailer and the 2 guard will run a hard flex cut off of a hard screen by the inside post player. The point guard will then down screen for the post player who will look for a shot from the trailer if the ball had not been passed inside to the 2. If 5 does not have a shot off the down screen, he swings the ball to the point guard, and then follows his pass into an immediate ball screen.

Andrew Grantz, Indiana University Southeast Assistant Coach, provides you with a look at the first phase of building your dribble attack offense. This offensive breakdown involves the guard driving hard to the paint while the post player cuts to the opposite block for a lob and finish. Running this properly will create space for the post player to finish.
Athlete Movements: The guard starts at the lane line extended, and the post player is on the ball side block. The guard then drives to the rim and the post player moves to the opposite block. Finally, the guard passes to the post player for a finish at the rim.

VCU Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Daniel Roose, takes you through the core of their movement exercises, and the focus here is on squats. You will have the opportunity to see five different squat exercises that can really help build strength. In addition, you will learn the proper techniques of each squat in order to get the most out of the lift.
Drill Setup: For equipment you will need two boxes, a kettlebell, a trap bar, a barbell bar, and free weights
Goblet Squat – while the athlete is standing on the boxes (one for each foot), they will bend over and lift up a kettlebell and perform a basic squat movement. Emphasis is placed on keeping shoulders back and getting your knees out.
Front Squat (Goblet Squat) – athlete is still elevated, but now they lift the kettlebell to just below their chin with their elbows out and hold this position as they perform reps of this squat.
Trap Bar Deadlift – athlete does a deadlift with the trap bar, touch the weight to the floor (be sure they get their hips back and knees out), pausing, and then exploding up to a standing position with the bar.
Bulgarian Split Squat – Stack the boxes and have the athlete stand in front of them. The athlete then should move one foot behind them to the top of the boxes; the bottom of their foot should be facing the ceiling. Balancing themselves on one foot, the athlete grabs two free weights and does a squat keeping their back straight and chest out. The athlete should then switch legs.
Front Squat – From the standing position, the athlete lifts the bar and positions it above their chest. Their elbows should point out and their hands facing the ceiling supporting the bar. The athlete will then perform reps of this squat.
