By Kevin Fitzpatrick - Last updated: Monday, February 1, 2016

You loved his “How Low Can You Go” Volumes 1 and 2, and now Oklahoma State University head coach, John Smith, is back with Volume 3! In this video from the brand new release, Coach Smith covers the straight leg counter – a difficult, but rewarding move to pull off.

Straight Leg Counter

Drill Summary: When your opponent is going for the straight leg counter, get your knees down and start to pull the opponent’s leg in a circle. Gradually start to sit with your hip to the mat. Next, replace your arm with your other arm and run your opponent down.

Effective Counters to Create Better Youth Wrestlers!

By nate.landas - Last updated: Friday, August 16, 2013

3X NCAA Champion, Eric Guerrero, believes strongly in having his athletes regularly practice getting off their backs. Use these over and under scenarios to help you and your wrestlers see how to avoid getting pinned.

In part one of this sequence, the practicing athlete gets into a back bridge and “walks” in a full circle. In part two, the partner (A) throws partner (B) to his back and (B) bridges and rolls through then works to score his own takedown. This is not a live situation, it is a drill in this sequence.

Take a look at an additional clip from the DVD, AAU Wrestling Skills Series: Counter Offense.  Also, view other Eric Guerrero videos from our massive Wrestling DVD collection!
