Discover cone drills that help create a 1 on 1, 2 on 2, 2 on 2 give and go, and 3 on 3 defensive situation featuring Don Showalter, 5x Gold Medalist coach for USA Basketball. These drills display the proper gapping of the ball to shut down gaps, and also create serious ball pressure. Using this effective series develops an intense defensive mindset while getting multiple reps in various situations.
Player Movements: Coach uses six players building from a 1 on 1 to 2 on 2 to 3 on 3 situation, while using four cones. Two cones are placed on the left wing 2 feet behind the three point line and then two more are placed on the opposite side so they run parallel. The offensive player dribbles on the outside of the cone, while the defender is on the inside. Each player must go around their cone to create a quick one on one situation.
Drill Essentials: Emphasize the importance of the first step in any defensive stance to avoid getting beat by the first attack dribble.
