Learn the keys to an effective starting position on bottom from the Head Coach at the University of Maryland, Kerry McCoy. Former 2X Olympian in Freestyle teaches you how to use your opponent’s force against them to perform the stand up. You will see how to defend better against an opponent’s attack and create more escapes.
The first key in executing the stand-up is to seal out the top man by bringing the elbows in tight. Second, pressure back, outside leg posts, push back to the feet. Third, capture opponent’s waist hand with a cross hand push and change off to 2 on 1 hand control, stagger your feet and stay low, Fourth, cut out; hips away and cut low and face opponent with arms low to block opponent’s leg attack.
