University of Iowa Head Coach, Bond Shymansky, shares a drill that helps build the slide hitter from the ground up. Coach Shymansky takes a closer look at the one foot take off and how to improve a hitters footwork. He explains how important the last two steps are when practicing the drill. Coach Shymansky shows how to train all hitters from any zone at the net to run a slide or one foot take-off type of attack.
Setup: The coach tosses the ball up to the athlete and clears out so the hitter has room to land. The athlete is focusing on the last two steps before the one foot take-off. The approach is irrelevant, it can be a three or five step approach to the ball. The hitter finishes the hit with the elbow over the wrist.
