Iowa Tops 2009-2010 Preseason Wrestling Rankings!

The University of Iowa wrestling program will attempt to win their third consecutive wrestling championship in 2009. The Hawkeyes open the season ranked #1 in the USA Today / NWCA / Intermat Division I Wrestling Poll. The preseason rankings include:

We have recently released a new wrestling DVD featuring Kevin Dresser. Dresser, the head wrestling coach at Virginia Tech and 2X All-American at the University of Iowa, produced The Dresser Dump. This DVD is part of the Championship Signature Wrestling Move Series, a collection of successful moves that each wrestler mastered while competing. The series includes moves from Ben Askren, Mark Ironside, Chris Bono, John Smith, and Jon Trenge.

We have recently released four new wrestling DVDs with Jeff Swenson, the Augsburg College Athletic Director and former Augsburg College Head Wrestling Coach. Swenson is a 10X NCAA Division III National Championship Coach, 13X MIAC Coach of the Year, 6X NWCA National Coach of the Year, and was inducted into the NCAA Division III Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 2005. Dennis Hall Named Named Head Coach for USA Wrestling’s Training Program at Northern Michigan University!

Dennis Hall has recently been named the head coach for USA Wrestling’s Greco-Roman program at the U.S. Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University. Hall is one of the greatest Greco-Roman wrestlers in U.S. history, with three career Olympic and World medals. Hall competed on three U.S. Olympic teams in Greco-Roman and won the silver medal in 1996. To learn Coach Hall’s wrestling techniques, view the following wrestling DVDs:

Goldman to be Inducted in Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame!

Indiana University Head Wrestling Coach, Duane Goldman, has been named to the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2009. The induction ceremony will take place in Iowa City, IA on September 5. While at Iowa wrestling for Dan Gable, Goldman was a four-time Big Ten Champion, four-time All-American and reached the NCAA championship match in all four years of his collegiate career. His perfect 36-0 record in 1986 ended with the 190 lbs. NCAA championship and set the Iowa record for best winning percentage in a year.

Guerrero Guides Jordan Oliver to a Bronze Medal!

Oklahoma State wrestler Jordan Oliver won a bronze medal at the Junior World Championship in Turkey. Oliver is coached by Eric Guerrero, Assistant Coach at Oklahoma State University. Guerrero was selected to serve as head coach for the USA at the 2009 FILA Junior Freestyle World Championships in Ankara, Turkey.

Ben Askren Named to ASU Wrestling Staff!

Ben Askren, one of the elite collegiate competitors in the nation at Missouri (2003-07) where his exciting style of wrestling led him to the NCAA Championship match at 174-lbs. four straight years. A three-time Big 12 champion, Askren won the national title in each of his last two season by winning 87 matches in a row, with a career record of 153-7. For his dominance, he was a two-time winner of the Dan Hodge Trophy in 2006 and 2007.

A four-time NWCA All-Academic and four-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree, Askren spent the past two years as a volunteer assistant coach with the Tigers while training for and competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where the member of Team USA went 1-1 in the 74kg freestyle competition.

Chris Bono Joins Jackson’s Wrestling Staff at Iowa State!

Iowa State head wrestling coach, Kevin Jackson, has announced that former Cyclone assistant coach and NCAA champion Chris Bono will join the Iowa State wrestling staff as an assistant coach. Bono comes to ISU from Tennessee-Chattanooga, where he’s been the head wrestling coach for the past three seasons. His teams have won three Southern Conference titles and he was the league’s Coach of the Year three times.
