Conference Football Championship is on the Line

We’re in the month of November and many conference championships will be decided in all divisions.

In the NAIA, Morningside College (9-0, 9-0), ranked #4, will play the defending national champion and #1 ranked Sioux Falls College (10-0, 9-0) for the Great Plains Athletic Conference championship on Saturday. Sioux Falls’ 3-4 Defense is ranked #1 and only allowing 6.7 points per game while the Sioux Falls’ Offense is ranked #2 in Scoring Offense (53.8 pts/game). On the other side of the ball, the Morningside Offense is ranked #3 in Scoring Offense (52.8 pts/ game).

Sioux Falls, Morningside Ranked #1, 5 in 2009 NAIA Football Poll!

The University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) football program received 17 first place votes and are ranked #1 in the 2009 NAIA Football Top 25 Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Head Coach Kalen DeBoer (2008 Schutt Coach of the Year) and Defensive Coordinator Chuck Morrell (2008 College Fanz Assistant Coach of the Year) look to repeat their 2008 season (14-0) with another NAIA championship.

Morningside College (IA) is ranked #5 in the Preseason Poll as they finished the 2008 season with a 10-2 record under head coach Steve Ryan. Ryan’s squad ranked #1 in the nation in Scoring Offense (48.6 points per game) and Passing Efficiency (185.2) in 2008. Ryan’s no huddle offense allows you to put points on the board and control the speed of the game.

Georgia Military College Ranked #8 in Preseason NJCAA Football Poll!

Georgia Military College, coached by Bert Williams, is ranked #8 in the NJCAA / JCFootball.com Preseason Poll. GMC finished with a 9-2 record in 2008 and will return five offensive starters and one defensive starter. Williams’ staff has incorporated the 3-5-3 Defense, which has been dominant over the past couple of years.

John Gregory Named af2 Coach of the Year!

The Iowa Barnstormers’ Head Coach, John Gregory, has been named the 2009 Sportexe af2 Coach of the Year as selected by a vote of other coaches and media members. Gregory guided the Barnstormers to a 12-4 regular season record and the clubs first Midwest Division championship. The Barnstormers were knocked out of the playoffs by Green Bay in the semifinal round.

This is the fourth Coach of the Year honor Gregory has earned throughout his football career. He earned the CFL Coach of the Year award in 1987 and was named AFL Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1996. 2X NFL MVP, Kurt Warner, was Gregory’s quarterback during the 1995 & 1996 season.

Olin, the Head Football Coach at Lewisville High School in Texas (former Baytown Lee Head Coach), has led the Ganders to three undefeated district championships and 11 state playoff appearances. Olin has coached 7 NCAA Division I or IAA quarterbacks and has been named Coach of the Year seven times.

John Gregory Leads Barnstormers to Playoff Birth!

John Gregory, head football coach of the Iowa Barnstormers, has guided his team to a 13-4 record. The Barnstormers are entering the second round of the Arena Football League playoffs and will face their division rivals, the Green Bay Blizzard. The two teams split a pair of matchups earlier this season as each team won on the opponent’s home turf. Iowa defeated Green Bay 46-41 on May 8 in Green Bay, but the Blizzard got their revenge with a 71-65 overtime victory over the Barnstormers on June 13 in Des Moines.

We have recently released a new football DVD, 20 Championship Defensive Back Drills, featuring Chris Merritt! Merritt is the Head Football Coach at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, FL. Merritt has guided the Explorers to six district titles in eight years (2001-2008). Merritt was the defensive back and special teams coach for the 2009 USA Football team that won the Junior World Championship at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, OH. Previously, Merritt was an Assistant Football Coach at Thiel College and served as the Head Football Coach / Director of Football Operations for the Hamburg Blue Devils (Hamburg, Germany).
