In this segment, Head Coach at the East Kansas Wrestling Club, Eric Akin, demonstrates his method for teaching the inside penetration step. When the athlete is practicing the inside penetration step, it is important that the shoulders rotate.
Inside Step Penetration
Begin by having the athlete drop the back knee, push off the back foot and drive the front knee to the mat; then, as the front knee drives down, the back knee steps up. So, the motor pattern cue is, “knee down knee up”. Coach Akin also demonstrates a drill to learn this skill in which the partner steps back each time as the practicing partner shoots again and again rotating the shoulders and alternating from one side to the other-right foot inside step then left foot inside step.
